Vacation on a Budget
Tips on Stretching Your Vacation Dollars

Planning a summer vacation? Consider the ABA Education Foundation's tips for ways to get the most vacation for your buck

Budget, Budget, Budget
No matter what your plans are, begin your vacation with a realistic budget. Be as detailed as possible and include items like gas, lodging, food, tips, souvenirs and admission fees. To begin budgeting for your trip in advance, use the foundation's family budgeting worksheet.

Shop Around
Use travel Web sites to compare rates and to get the best value for your dollars. Travel sites generally offer package deals that include airfare, lodging and car rental services. Consumers can also review other visitor's feedback and pictures.

Paper or Plastic?
Plastic. Use your credit or debit card to make purchases to avoid ATM usages fees and carrying around large amounts of cash. If you use credit, be sure to pay it off at the end of the trip. Consumers can track their spending online or on their statement for an accurate account of how they spent their money. Credit Dos and Don'ts.

Lets Make a Deal
Hotels can give discounts to persons with disabilities, senior travelers, government employees and those with certain affiliations like AAA. Ask for special amenities like complimentary breakfast, dinner or concierge services.
