ABA Education Foundation's 5th annual Get Smart About Credit Day!
On October 18, 2007, and throughout the fall, bankers across the country presented students with valuable lessons on credit management. Our thanks to everyone who participated in this financial education program!

Rep. Dent and KNBT - Bethlehem, Penn. House member Charlie Dent (R-Penn.) joined David Kennedy, regional president, KNBT, to teach a lesson on the wise use of credit accounting students at Liberty High School. Dent and Kennedy emphasized the dangers of identity theft. Dent's visit resulted from an e-mail to House members and staff sent by ABA's Floyd Stoner about the Foundation's Get Smart About Credit activities. |

Citi Global Volunteer Day - Dallas, Texas CitiFinancial President and CEO Mary McDowell kicked off Citi Global Volunteer Day efforts with a credit lesson for Academy of Finance students at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center in Dallas. She was joined by Helen E. Holcomb, first vice president and COO, and Princeton Williams, senior economic education specialist, both of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. |

Rep. Bean and National City Bank - Gurnee, Ill. House Financial Services Committee member Melissa Bean (D-Ill.) joined Martha Delk Wright, district sales executive at National City Bank, Libertyville, Ill., to teach a financial education lesson to sophomore economics students at Warren Township High School, Gurnee, Ill. |

FDIC Director and Cardinal Bank - Arlington, Va. Kevin Reynolds, president of Cardinal Bank, returned to Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Va. to present a financial education lesson to seniors. Mr. Reynolds was joined by Thomas J. Curry, FDIC director, in honor of the fifth annual Get Smart About Credit Day. |

OCC & Zions Bank - Salt Lake City, Utah Teens at West High School learned the fundamentals of credit from Zions Bank President and CEO Scott Anderson, Rob Brough, Zions Bank's executive vice president of Marketing and Communications and Dave Miller, District Community Affairs Officer for the Western District, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. |

U. S. Treasurer & Capital Bank, SSB - El Paso, Texas U.S. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral and Rodrigo Flores, CEO of Capital Bank, SSB shared credit lessons with the entire student body at Radford School in El Paso. After the presentation, students talked with the visitors and received copies of the Money Talks newsletter series. |

SouthPoint Bank - Birmingham Melissa Jones, SouthPoint Bank, and several other employees made credit presentations to local high schools the week of October 15, 2007. Seniors at Clay-Chalkville High School were presented information on the importance of credit. |

1st Centennial Bank - Redlands 1st Centennial bankers visited several high schools and made credit presentations to 285 students. Berangere Robertson-Tucker, CRA Financial Literacy Trainer, talked to students about the dos and don'ts of using credit and how to take charge of their personal finances. |

Valley Bank & Trust - Brighton Valley Bank & Trust bankers taught credit lessons to more than 350 students in 13 classes. Valerie Espinosa-Martinez, Valley Bank & Trust Branch Manager/Vice President, speaks to students in a Marketing class at Brighton High School. |

Pelham Banking Company - Pelham Lorenda Smith and other Pelham Banking Company bankers visited juniors and seniors at Pelham High School. They were able to reach five classes of students with important credit lessons. |
Darby Bank - Vidalia Mark Thompson and Penny W. Seabolt of Darby Bank made presentations to approximately 155 students in their area. They were excited to see students actively engaged in the material presented and reported that students asked many great questions. |

Bank of Guam - Hagatna Volunteers from Bank of Guam, Bank of Hawaii, Citibank and First Hawaiian Bank, visited schools to discuss the importance of keeping a good credit record and maintaining financial responsibility to high school seniors. |

Cambridge Bank - Lake Zurich Ginny Wagner and Beth Klyczek led credit management lessons at seven Consumer Education classes with approximately 234 students at the high school. The bankers were very impressed with the depth of knowledge the students had about saving money and credit.

Hickory Point Bank & Trust - Decatur Misty Bradley and Kate McBride presented lessons to about 300 Eisenhower High School students. The students created budgets, learned how to establish good credit and use credit cards wisely. The program was so successful that the bankers were invited back to talk about checking and savings accounts. |

Mercantile Trust & Savings Bank - Quincy Mercantile invited seventh-graders from St. Peter Catholic School to visit the bank. Julie Bowen discussed 10 Financial Myths and Chad Massner gave a presentation on the importance of using credit wisely. Students were treated to pizza and gift bags after the presentations. |
State Bank of Countryside - Countryside State Bank of Countryside's Financial Educators visited seventh and eighth grade students at Brenneman Elementary School in Chicago to discuss the importance of credit management. |

First National Bank of Steeleville - Steeleville Tom Broeckling, executive vice president, and Klay Tiemann, vice president, presented lesson one of Get Smart About Credit to juniors and seniors at Sparta High School. Klay was impressed by the level of interest students showed concerning the proper use of credit and the importance of budgeting personal finances. |

Centier Bank - Valparaiso For both Get Smart About Credit effort and the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank's second annual Money Smart Week, Centier Bank's Melissa Fancher presented credit lessons to over 200 students at Valparaiso High School. |

Central State Bank - Muscatine Four lenders from Central State Bank made presentations to approximately 160 students in five classes at Muscatine High School. Bill Nus, vice president, teaches one of the classes, along with an individual providing sign-language interpretation for the benefit of hearing-impaired students. |
State Bank & Trust Co. - Nevada State Bank partnered with the Nevada School System Multi-Age Group and reached 175 students in a two day period. They set up stations with information on credit, saving, and other topics. They also gave students a tour of the bank. |

Premier Bank - Lenexa Joe James, president, Premier Bank Northland, and Todd Karnatz, vice president and retail lending manager will present the Get Smart About Credit program to two local high schools. Together, they will present more than 10 lessons. |

Provident Bank - Baltimore Eight Provident employees taught credit lessons to four classes, about 80 students total, at Reginald Lewis High School. CEO Gary Geisel made opening remarks and introduced the bankers to the students. |

County National Bank - Hillsdale Four representatives from County National Bank attended the 2007 Hillsdale County College Fair in October. They provided valuable credit information to over 500 juniors and seniors along with their parents. Additional presentations are scheduled throughout October and November at 10 area high schools. |
Seaway Community Bank - St. Clair Christine McNabb, St. Clair branch manager, and Bonnie Sumner, executive vice president, taught 180 high school Economic students about the four C's of credit, how to improve their credit scores and the importance of using credit wisely. This was the first year Seaway Community Bank participated. |

Fifth Third Bank - Western Michigan Many Fifth Third Bank employees made a difference in their local communities for Get Smart About Credit. They made 44 presentations in 17 schools to educate Western Michigan students. For the third year, Cassandra Foster taught two classes at Muskegon Heights High School. |

BankPlus - Jackson Joe Williams and Jesseca Harvey participated in Get Smart About Credit Day. They went to Puckett High School in Puckett and talked to high school seniors about credit and the importance of having good credit. |
BancorpSouth - Laurel Jonathan Strickler, Branch Officer, presented Get Smart About Credit lessons to students at Jones County Junior College. Approximately 100 freshman in an Orientation and Professional Development class attended the presentation as a requirement for a class grade or for additional bonus points. |

BancorpSouth - Columbus BancorpSouth bankers shared credit lessons with two different groups of Economics classes at New Hope High School. Reggie Hankins and Frank Jadzinski taught the lessons during five class periods in October. |
PriorityOne Bank and Citizens Bank - Seminary Local Bankers in Seminary joined forces to teach the dos and don'ts of credit to mark National Get Smart About Credit Day. Tanya Lofton of PriorityOne Bank and Kenny Williamson of Citizens Bank taught lessons to students in a Resource Management class at Seminary High School. |

Ozark Mountain Bank - Branson Ozark Mountain Bank Senior Vice President Karen Hall presented the Get Smart about Credit program to students at Branson High School. Three business teachers at the school brought their classes to the auditorium throughout the day for credit presentations. |
Montgomery Bank - Sikeston Seven Montgomery Bank branches participated in Get Smart About Credit Day. Sixteen employees presented valuable information about the wise use of credit to more than 900 students. |

Bank of Nebraska - Omaha Mary Byrnes of Bank of Nebraska and Alex Kaplan, U.S. Department of the Treasury, shared credit lessons with students at the College of Saint Mary. The students were from the Mother's Living and Learning Program, designed for women who live on campus with their children while pursuing a degree. |
Cornerstone Bank - York Becky Weber and Sandi Osentowski presented information on credit and creditworthiness to the Junior Achievement class atYork High School. At the end of the presentation, the students worked in groups on case studies to determine how creditworthiness affects them getting a loan. |

Sun West Bank - Las Vegas Bank officers Larry Hoftiezer, Don Peetz and Jim Cunningham presented a Get Smart About Credit program to the counselors and some of the night students of the GNJ Family Life Center. The bankers plan to reach the center's entire enrollment of more than 600 students. The Center is for at-risk and disadvantaged students. |

First Hope Bank - Hope Five First Hope bankers spoke to area high school students about credit. The presentations, a combination of lecture, discussion and scenario exercises, were well received and the material was very new to most of the students. |
Susquehanna Bank DV - Camden Susquehanna Bankers reached out to local schools and taught young adults about budgeting and credit at Pennsauken High School. One teacher commented, "I wish we had more time. Students were engaged in the discussion." |

Lakeland Bank - Montville Chris Nichols, Montville office manager, made four presentations on credit and personal finance to more than 100 students at Montville High School. Mr. Nichols visited the school for the Banking Awareness program from the State Department of Banking and Insurance. |

Canandaigua National Bank - Rochester CNB employee Laura King presented credit lessons to East Rochester High School students. Laura was one of more than 15 CNB bankers who participated in the ABAEF's Get Smart About Credit Day. CNB colleagues reached a projected 350 area students through this effort. |

LSB The Bank - Lexington Gene Klump, market executive in Davidson County presented the Get Smart About Credit program to a group of students from Lexington Senior High School. LSB The Bank also provides credit education year-round by offering the Get Smart About Credit eLearning program. |

Security National Bank - Springfield Marilyn Burchett, Marcia Lyons and Andy Irick visited six classes at North High School and taught juniors and seniors credit lessons. Burchett also visited Wittenberg University and spoke to a group of freshman students about credit and saving. |

Killbuck Savings Bank - Killbuck Kurt Stutzman, vice present of Killbuck Savings Bank, and Lisa Grassbaugh, a representative from MetLife, visited a local high school and taught credit lessons and also spoke with students about applying for loans. |

National City - Cincinnati In October, Robie Suggs, a National City banker, facilitated a personal finance workshop for students. The students were from Working In Neighborhoods, a non-profit housing and social services organization in South Cumminsville, a urban area near Cincinnati. |

Park National Bank - Newark Associates of Park National Bank visit many classes at local high schools all year long and discuss the importance of good credit decisions. Branch managers Jerrod Gambs (pictured) and Ginger Varner facilitated a 2-week seminar for the local Youth Engaged in Services (Y.E.S.) Club, an after-school youth group program. |

National Penn Bank - Boyertown Branch Manager Tom Lenihan visited his alma mater, Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, and spoke to more than 100 juniors and seniors about credit. In addition, he touched on budgeting and steps to take to help protect yourself from identity theft. |

Fulton Financial - Lancaster Twelve Fulton Bankers visited five Lancaster County high schools. Nearly 500 students in grades nine through twelve learned about what credit is, the importance of a good credit history and what positive and negative impacts it can have on your future. |

Washington Trust - Westerly David Kmetz, vice president, commercial lending, Washington Trust and David Nason, assistant secretary for financial institutions, U.S. Department of Treasury, taught students at Chariho Regional High School the importance of establishing and maintaining good credit. |

First State Bank - Chapel Hill First State Bank invited high school seniors in business and economics classes to the bank for a Credit Forum, where they reviewed credit material, stopped at different stations to learn about checking accounts, using debit and credit, and listened to President and CEO Mike Moorehead. The students earned "money" and could buy a homework pass as a reward for participating. |

First Victoria National Bank - Victoria First Victoria National Bank presented credit lessons to the Economics classes of Memorial High School in Victoria. More than 200 students learned valuable lessons from First Victoria National bankers Lisa Serrata and Margaret Carver, who have already been asked to return to the school and present the information to more students. |
ViewPoint Bank - Plano Six bankers from ViewPoint Bank presented credit education to students at the Jeffries Street Learning Center and a group of 50 at the Christian Stronghold Baptist Church, both in Dallas and five classes of students at Williams High School in Plano.

TowneBank - Suffolk TowneBank management associates visited 11 high schools in the Hampton Roads area delivering Get Smart about Credit lessons. Some bankers presented to two classes, some presented to ten! All presentations were well received, and many associates have been invited to present lessons throughout the school year. |

Chesapeake Bank - Kilmarnock Chesapeake Bank employees made credit presentations to almost 600 high school students in Gloucester, Williamsburg and Kilmarnock. They will continue to make presentations in December. |

Mike also made a presentation to the Harrisonburg High School senior class. Representatives from Pendleton Community Bank visited 3 high schools in West Virginia as well. |
